McLean County Release Records
McLean County has a jailer but no operating county jail. Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, or KOOL, labels “McLean County Jail (closed),” while the county still publishes an elected jailer and budgets for contracts with other counties. That unusual structure divides the paper trail. A host jail records physical admission and departure. The sheriff may record an arrest or transport. The Circuit Court Clerk keeps the order and docket. Kentucky corrections records a later state commitment, parole, probation, or discharge.
A release ends one custodian’s physical control. It does not always mean the person returned home. Bond, recognizance, time served, sentence completion, parole, probation, transfer, state commitment, and release to another agency describe different events. The exact status label matters. A transfer closes one jail entry while another agency continues custody. Parole ends confinement but keeps correctional supervision in force. Final discharge is the end of the controlling sentence or supervision, not merely the day a jail door opens.
McLean County Release Types
The best record copies the agency’s wording without turning it into a broader claim. Pretrial release leaves the criminal case open. A court dismissal can end one charge while another case or hold remains. A person marked released to KDOC, ICE, USMS, or another county has left the first jail but may still be confined.
| Recorded event | What it means | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Community release while the case continues | Court docket and host-jail release sheet |
| Time served or sentence complete | Custodial term credited or completed | Judgment, sentence calculation, release record |
| Parole, probation, shock probation | Community placement with supervision | KOOL, District 13, court or Parole Board |
| Transfer or other agency | One custody record ended; another may begin | Named receiving agency |
| Dismissed | A court disposition, not proof every hold ended | Full case docket and custody record |
- Discharge
- The formal end of the sentence or supervision reflected in the controlling record.
- Detainer
- A request or notice that another authority may take action when current custody ends.
- Time served
- A release tied to a sentence and credited time, not simply roster removal.
- Expungement
- A court process that can remove or restrict qualifying records under Kentucky law.
McLean County Release Record Fields
The host jail’s release sheet is usually the most direct proof of physical departure. Ask for an existing record tied to one custody episode. A photo belongs to the booking record and proves neither release nor the case result. Court and corrections records should be used to explain the authority and any status that followed.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Legal name and identifier | Which person and custody record were matched |
| Booking or admission number | The specific custody episode |
| Booking date and time | When the custodian recorded entry |
| Release date and time | When that custodian recorded custody ending |
| Release or disposition code | The agency’s stated reason or transaction |
| Authority and case reference | The order, court, or agency connected to departure |
| Destination or receiving agency | Whether custody continued elsewhere |
| Holds and status history | Other restraints and changes recorded at departure |
Legal authority and physical departure can occur at different times. A judge may enter an order before staff complete identity checks, property return, transport, or other-hold review. Obtain both the court order and release timestamp when timing matters.
Request McLean County Release Records
Start with the actual custodian. For confinement at Ohio County Detention Center, request the booking and release sheet there. If the host is unknown, contact McLean Jailer Chris Ellis at P.O. Box 127, Calhoun, KY 42327, or 270-499-8530. The McLean Sheriff may hold its arrest or transport record. Use the clerk for the court order and KDOC for state release or discharge documents.
- Identify the person by full legal name, date of birth, approximate booking date, case, and booking number if known.
- Name the existing records sought: booking sheet, release date and time, disposition code, authority, destination, holds, status history, and photo.
- Send a signed request by hand, mail, fax, or email to the correct custodian and state the Kentucky-residency basis required by the Act.
- Ask for electronic copies in their existing format and request a cost estimate before copying.
- Track the written response. KRS 61.880 generally sets five business days, and a denial should cite and explain its legal basis.
Under KRS 61.872, the standardized statewide form must be accepted, though another compliant signed request may also be used. Ordinary noncommercial copy fees cannot exceed actual reproduction cost. The Attorney General generally treats ten cents per paper page as reasonable. Request nonexempt portions if some content must be withheld.
McLean County Record Access
Kentucky’s Open Records Act does not make every release document automatically public in full. KRS 61.878 allows exemptions, while court orders and other laws can restrict juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, privileged, safety-sensitive, personal, or active-enforcement material. The agency must address the particular record. Release and booking records are not secret merely because custody ended, but access depends on content and custodian.
Online visibility is not retention. No official McLean or Ohio County source documents how long a released record stays visible. A live roster can drop a name while the underlying file remains. Lawful destruction or expungement can later limit that file. Kentucky’s court process also requires an expungement certification for applicable petitions. A certification is not an order, and a missing record after expungement cannot be recast as proof no custody event occurred.
McLean County Bond Release
Kentucky Pretrial Services operates statewide and relays a judge’s release decision to the jail and clerk. McLean court reporting distinguishes financial release, nonfinancial release, indictment summons, and detention until disposition. Those are legal outcomes, not identical physical-release events.
A bond amount does not show payment. An order does not establish the jail’s departure time. Likewise, roster disappearance cannot be called sentence completion. Read the docket chronologically, then compare it with the host-jail transaction. This two-record method separates what the court authorized from what the jail carried out.
McLean County Release Statistics
The Administrative Office of the Courts reported McLean Circuit booked-case totals of 45 in 2017, 37 in 2018, 27 in 2019, 61 in 2020, and 50 in 2021. These figures describe cases, not unique people and not releases. One bond can cover several cases, one case can have several bonds, and the report method uses only the most recent release bond. They supply process context but cannot be promoted as a recent-release count.
Find McLean County Released Inmates
The search starts with custody, not a broad name result. McLean’s closed jail means the real host must be found first. Ohio County Detention Center is a documented receiver for some McLean arrests, but no source proves it is the sole host. Capacity, classification, court direction, medical needs, and other circumstances may lead elsewhere.
- Call the McLean jailer or arresting agency to identify the host jail for the named episode.
- Search the host’s current roster. If absent, record the search date and seek the release sheet.
- Search Kentucky VINE by legal name or jail/DOC ID, checking local and state records when both may exist.
- Read CourtNet or KYeCourts for bond, dismissal, sentence, probation, revocation, or discharge entries.
- Use KOOL for state custody or supervision, then use the correct federal source if the record names federal or immigration custody.
- Request the official release record when online systems do not provide the custody-end event.
The 24-Hour Releases and 72-Hour Releases pages explain the same fallback for recent events. No official rolling McLean or documented Ohio County release feed was verified.
McLean County KOOL Search
KOOL covers Kentucky state prisoners and community supervision, not every short county booking. Begin with limited criteria, such as last name and first initial, then narrow the results. The official system is updated daily, but KDOC cautions that data newer than 120 days may not be finalized. Recent or surprising results require comparison with VINE, the host jail, or District 13.
| Search field | Best use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Name or alias | Broad identity search | Spelling and aliases can alter results |
| PID/DOC number | Exact state offender match | Not a county booking number |
| Status and location | Separate prison from supervision | Office location is not residence |
| County of supervision | Find community-supervision records | Does not show all local jail stays |
| Projected Release Date From/To | Search a future date range | Projection is not actual release |
A prison location usually means physical state custody. A Probation and Parole district with active dates usually means community supervision. “Released To Other Agency” calls for the receiving system. For more detail on dates, use the Release Date Lookup.
McLean County Court Release Proof
The case file answers why a legal release could occur. The custody record answers when the person physically left. Search statewide case entry with sound identity details or a case number, select McLean County, and read the entries in date order. Bond posting, dismissal, judgment, jail credit, probation, shock probation, revocation, and satisfaction can all change the custody story.
The McLean Circuit Court Clerk is the durable copy source after a temporary roster entry disappears. Taylor Skaggs’s office is at the Courthouse Annex, 210 East Main Street, P.O. Box 145, Calhoun, KY 42327; telephone 270-273-3966 or 270-273-5055. A file may be at the clerk, in records storage, or lawfully destroyed under a retention schedule.
The official statewide case-search entry shows where public court research begins.
Use the resulting docket as legal context, then obtain the jail’s release time when exact departure matters.
McLean County Post-Release Supervision
Parole follows prison release under a Parole Board decision. Probation is a court sentence served in the community instead of, or after, confinement. Mandatory reentry supervision can begin before projected sentence completion for eligible people. All can place a person outside a jail while correctional authority continues.
McLean belongs to KDOC Probation and Parole District 13. Verify the person through KOOL, then confirm unclear status with the district or obtain the controlling court or Board document. The full procedure appears under Post-Release Supervision.
McLean County Reentry Contacts
KDOC Region 1 identifies Reneah Skaggs as District 13’s reentry coordinator at 270-231-5462. The current District 13 resource manual provides regional agency and service navigation. Those contacts can help route a person after release, but neither proves that a named person is supervised or eligible for a specific service. Use the correctional record for status and the provider for current service rules.
Getting Home After McLean Release
Release may occur at an out-of-county host jail, so transport planning starts with the actual discharge site and time. Kentucky’s transportation listing identifies AACS/GRITS for McLean service, with demand-response and paid-fare options. Published hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The listed price is $1.10 per mile with a $4 one-way minimum.
Call GRITS at 800-816-3511 to confirm reservation needs, eligibility, service area, fare, and whether pickup can occur at the host jail. The listing does not guarantee immediate transport. Do not arrange pickup at the closed jail in Calhoun unless the releasing agency expressly directs it.
McLean Release Notifications and Transfers
Kentucky VINE can return a release date for a person not in custody and facility contact for someone still held. Register on both local and DOC records if both exist. An alert records a supplied event, not residence or final discharge. Confirm any surprising result with the live record and custodian.
For federal sentenced custody, the BOP Inmate Locator can show a past release date, “RELEASED,” or “Not in BOP Custody.” Those labels end BOP custody only. They do not exclude supervised release or another custody system. The official BOP explanation documents those field meanings.
ICE ODLS is the limited path when a record says transferred to ICE. It includes current detainees and people released from ICE custody in the prior 60 days. A local “released to ICE” entry is a transfer, and no ODLS result alone proves release.
McLean Custody and Release Sources
Each system answers a narrow question. Matching them prevents a transfer or supervision status from being mislabeled as unconditional release.
| Source | Best evidence | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| Host-jail roster | Current local custody | Absence gives no release reason |
| Host release sheet | Custody end, code, destination | Must identify the actual host |
| VINE | Status, event, notification | Local and DOC records may coexist |
| KOOL | State prison or supervision | Not every county booking |
| Court file | Legal authority and disposition | Order time is not departure time |
| BOP or ICE | System-specific federal status | Does not exclude other custody |
McLean County Custody Facilities
The eight facility pages follow every documented branch: the closed local jail, a verified host, an unidentified contract host, state custody and supervision, and three federal systems. Use the source that matches the custody episode.
- McLean County Jail (closed): routing through the elected jailer, not a live roster.
- Ohio County Detention Center: documented host with a current-custody lookup.
- Other contract county jail: identify the host before requesting release records.
- Kentucky Department of Corrections / KOOL: state prison and correctional status.
- KDOC Probation and Parole District 13: McLean community supervision.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons system: federal sentenced custody.
- ICE detention system: immigration custody and recent ICE release.
- U.S. Marshals prisoner network: federal pretrial movements.
